With plantations located at high altitudes ranging 4,500 to 6,000 feet, the central highlands of New Guinea are ideal for the production of this coffee. Traditionally cultivated on remote villages often only accessible by foot, the Papua New Guinea Coffee crop is harvested in a rainforest climate without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Papua New Guinea Coffee is developed slowly and hand-processed, which translates into a better quality product.
Premium specialty coffee plants from the Jamaica Blue Mountain Estates were introduced to this part of Indonesia in the 1927 and have succeeded because the two countries have a similar climate.
