With a sweet citrus start, thiswonderful cup carries through to a chocolate orange flavor followed by smooth bold body and a spicy chocolate finish.
Grown year-round in a region close to Lake Abaya, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is cultivated from wild arabica trees that have been growing in Yirga Cheffo for almost 1,300 years. This biologically pure crop is produced without chemicals and synthetic fertilizers at high altitudes ranging from 6,500 to 7,200 feet. Since the same branch can bear blossoms, green fruit and ripe cherries simultaneously, the fruit of each tree is hand-picked by harvesters. Due to the fact that Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is wet processed, it is noted for having higher acidity and a cleaner flavor. Premium lots will offer a charming floral aroma both ground and in the cup.
The Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) was formed in 2002 as an association of 23 local cooperatives that had the objective to securing better prices for famers and accessing the international market. They have been given special permission to export their coffee directly to international buyers, and improve the quality of the coffee they export and also enhance life in their commmunities.
